Pipeline For Female Accountants Look Healthy, ACCA Says

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- The pipeline for motivated and ambitious young women looking to embark on a career in accountancy has never been healthier, says the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

The association said there were over 480,000 students around the world studying to become professional accountants with 54 per cent of them being female.

ACCA Chief Executive Helen Brand OBE said for gender inequality to become a thing of the past, organisations must build supportive environment and work to eliminate conscious and unconscious bias right across the corporate structure.

"Closing the gender gaps is crucial to the global economy's success," she said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in a global survey titled, 'Generation Next', covering 18,000 respondents, the ACCA uncovered inequality in the working trends of young women in finance careers.

The survey highlighted that 47 per cent preferred to stay in their careers for more than five years compared with 40 per cent of the male respondents.

Furthermore, it said women were more likely to stay with their current employer in their next role, with 42 per cent expecting an internal next move, compared with 37 per cent of men.
