CSX creates world's first blockchain-based national securities exchange

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- CryptoSecurities Exchange LLC (CSX) will be the world´s first blockchain-based national securities exchange registered with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The difference between current securities trading exchanges and a blockchain-based exchange are access, cost, speed and transparency.

CSX, in a statement, said the company would be operated under the state of Delaware´s new cryptosecurities law, which allows stock to be digitised and transferred electronically via a distributed shareholder register in a blockchain-based private network.

The company seeks to digitise the shareholder registers of every over-the-counter company in the United States for no cost.

The network is a self-regulating, fully transparent and code-regulated blockchain-based national securities exchange for Main Street, not just Wall Street.

More importantly, CSX will be working with former SEC regulators and forensic auditors to build a network that has all existing securities laws and regulations built into the code framework to automate the legal compliance.

The CSX online trading platform will directly connect investors with entrepreneurs, small businesses, and companies throughout the United States.

CSX has registered as a Regulation D Exempt Offering and registered with FinCEN as a Registered Money Services Business.

The company also secured a lobbying firm in Washington DC to pursue a partnership with the United States government, retained an international tax law firm to ensure IRS compliance, and is in the process of establishing a SuperPAC to push its agenda in the US Congress.

MCDONALD'S BECOMES THE FIRST RESTAURANT COMPANY TO SET APPROVED SCIENCE BASED TARGET TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Company Expected to Prevent 150 Million Metric Tons of Emissions by 2030

OAK BROOK, Ill., March 20 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, McDonald’s announces it will partner with franchisees and suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to McDonald’s restaurants and offices by 36% by 2030 from a 2015 base year in a new strategy to address global climate change. Additionally, McDonald’s commits to a 31% reduction in emissions intensity (per metric ton of food and packaging) across its supply chain by 2030 from 2015 levels. This combined target has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Through these actions, McDonald’s expects to prevent 150 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the atmosphere by 2030. This is the equivalent of taking 32 million passenger cars off the road for an entire year or planting 3.8 billion trees and growing them for 10 years. The target will enable McDonald’s to grow as a business without growing its emissions.

“To create a better future for our planet, we must all get involved. McDonald’s is doing its part by setting this ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to address the challenge of global climate change,” said Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s President and CEO, who announced the plan in a video released by the company. “To meet this goal, we will source our food responsibly, promote renewable energy and use it efficiently, and reduce waste and increase recycling.”

To reach its target, McDonald’s will work across its supply chain, offices and restaurants to be more innovative and efficient through improvements such as LED lighting, energy efficient kitchen equipment, sustainable packaging, restaurant recycling, and by elevating and supporting sustainable agriculture practices. In collaboration with thousands of franchisees, suppliers and producers, McDonald’s will prioritize action on the largest segments of its carbon footprint: beef production, restaurant energy usage and sourcing, packaging and waste. These segments combined, account for approximately 64% of McDonald’s global emissions.

Building on the momentum of existing programs on forests, agriculture and energy efficiency, McDonald’s and its partners will continue to identify practical solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bring them to scale. In its commitment to transparency, McDonald’s will expand its measurement systems, and annually communicate about progress, challenges and milestones.

“Environmental progress doesn’t just happen, it takes bold leadership from all of us,” said Fred Krupp, President of Environmental Defense Fund. “As one of the best known brands on the planet, McDonald’s is well positioned to lead, and its ambitious new climate target will inspire innovation, collaboration, and most importantly critical greenhouse gas reductions across the company’s global operations and supply chain.”

McDonald’s work to care for the planet and communities spans nearly three decades, including the establishment of a groundbreaking partnership with Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) on packaging and waste reduction. More recently, in 2014, McDonald’s released an Energy and Climate Position Statement, establishing the company’s view on taking effective, collaborative action to tackle climate change. Additionally, in 2015, McDonald’s developed a Commitment on Forests that addresses supply chain impacts on deforestation. This strengthened the foundation of the company’s climate strategy as deforestation accounts for an estimated 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

“McDonald's footprint touches all parts of the world. Their announcement matters because it commits one of the world’s biggest companies to deliver, with the full breadth of their food chain system, significant emissions reductions based on science. It also coincides with their decision to join the We Are Still In coalition with thousands of other companies across the US,” said Carter Roberts, President and CEO of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the United States. “While private-sector actions can’t entirely solve the climate crisis facing our planet, significant announcements like these, and coalitions like these working on climate together, create momentum and movement toward the scale of solutions that we ultimately need.”

The launch of this science based target is the latest step in McDonald’s journey to drive meaningful change and use its Scale for Good.

“McDonald’s is delivering a strong statement by becoming the first restaurant company to set a science-based greenhouse gas emissions target. McDonald’s leaders understand that you don’t have to grow emissions to grow as a company,” said Andrew Steer, President & CEO, World Resources Institute (WRI), one of the Science Based Targets initiative partners. “By working with suppliers to design and scale more sustainable farming practices and reducing waste, McDonald’s will chart a path that is better for its franchise, customers and the environment. WRI urges McDonald’s to look for additional opportunities to align their business model and value chain with the realities of a resource-constrained world. We stand ready to support the company in pursuing strategies that lead to healthier consumers and a more sustainable planet.”

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between WRI, WWF, CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) and the United Nations Global Compact, which helps companies determine how much they must cut emissions to do their part to address climate change.

Building on years of engagement with the beef industry, McDonald’s released its 2020 goals for beef sustainability in 2017. These laid out the next steps for collaboration with beef producers and industry partners to proactively identify, share and scale beef production’s most sustainable practices. Already in 2018, McDonald’s launched new packaging and recycling goals and strengthened its commitment to support families.

The title to EPL 6710 is registered to Luxury Investments Two Hundred and Sixty Four (PTY) Ltd, a Namibian company, of which the company holds 91 per cent.

EPL 6710 is located immediately east and north of, and contiguous with EPL 3895 that covers the Aukam graphite deposit and the Snyman graphite occurrence.

The addition of the new EPL increases the area of prospective geology covered to 63,072 hectares (630 square kilometres).

"We are very pleased that we have been granted EPL 6710 as not only does it cover the potential extension of graphite mineralisation seen at the Snyman occurrence, but it also covers most of the window below the unconformity that is also prospective for graphite, " said Gratomic´s co-chief executive officer, Arno Brand.

ETHOCA'S INTEGRATED SOLUTION SUITE AIMS TO ERADICATE 90% OF CHARGEBACKS THROUGH PROVEN INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

Led by ground-breaking Eliminator solution, the suite provides a three-layer defence from genuine fraud, friendly fraud and customer disputes, while creating a better experience for customers

TORONTO & AUSTIN, Texas & LONDON, March 15 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ethoca, the industry standard for collaboration-based technology solutions that enable card issuers and online merchants to increase card acceptance and stop ecommerce fraud and disputes, today announced the launch of its new Integrated Solution Suite. When adopted at full scale across the industry, Ethoca’s suite of products – including Ethoca Eliminator, Ethoca Alerts and Enhanced Representments – can mitigate up to 90% of chargebacks from genuine fraud, friendly (or first-party) fraud and false claims. Even more importantly, it sets the stage for increased card acceptance across the ecosystem.

Today’s ecommerce ecosystem is plagued by a raft of issues that increase friction in the purchase process and create a negative experience for customers. With friendly fraud (whether innocent or hostile) and false claims now reaching 90% of all fraud volumes in sectors like digital goods, card issuers, merchants and customers are all facing a downward spiral of disputes that are having a significant impact on card acceptance. Industry estimates suggest that ‘false declines’ – when good customers are falsely declined due to the risk of fraud – are continuing to increase: for every $1 in confirmed fraud, $13 in legitimate transactions are falsely rejected. Customers experiencing a false decline will elect to abandon purchases at trusted ecommerce web sites, pull out a different payment card or, in 39% of cases, potentially abandon the purchase altogether.¹

SINGAPORE SMALL BUSINESSES CONFIDENT IN 2018

SINGAPORE, Mar. 15, 2018/Medianet International-AsiaNet/ --

Small businesses in Singapore are showing a strong pick-up in confidence in 2018, according to a new survey released today.

The findings, from CPA Australia's eighth annual Asia-Pacific Small Business Survey, follow extensive surveying of nearly 3,000 small business operators in Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Mainland China.

CPA Australia's Head of Policy, Paul Drum FCPA said the outlook for 2018 is strong, with 57.0 per cent of businesses expecting to grow, even as Singapore's small businesses experienced weaker growth in 2017.

"While 2017 saw the lowest number of Singapore small businesses that reported growing since 2014, many expressed a high level of confidence in the Singapore economy and in their own growth prospects for 2018.

"Fifty-seven per cent of small businesses in Singapore are expecting to grow in 2018, the best result for Singapore since the 2012 survey" Mr Drum said.

The survey results again showed that businesses that are applying digital technologies in their business are significantly more likely to be growing strongly than businesses that are not.

In comparison to Australia and New Zealand, Singapore's small business sector is more digitally capable, with a significant majority using social media for business purposes, and nearly four in ten businesses earning more than ten per cent of their income from online sales.

"Singapore's small businesses could, however, benefit from a stronger focus on new digital payment options, such as AliPay, ApplePay and WeChat Pay. Only 30.2 per cent allow customers to pay through this technology, well below China (65.5 per cent) and the survey average (42.7 per cent).

"With Singapore's excellent communications infrastructure and world-leading support for small businesses, we expect Singapore's small businesses to move quickly to invest in new payment technologies.

"The results show investments into new technologies are likely to have a fairly quick and positive impact on the bottom line of many small businesses. 35.1 per cent of Singapore respondents that invested in technology in 2017 stated that such an investment has already resulted in improvements in profitability," Mr Drum said.

AXIOM FOODS AWARDED FIRST 'METHOD OF USE' PATENT FOR ORYZATEIN® RICE PROTEIN

Licensing Opportunities Offered to Manufacturers To Use Clinically Studied Claims

LOS ANGELES, March 2 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Axiom Foods, Inc. (“Axiom”) has been awarded its first application patent for any rice protein ever, U.S. Patent No. 9,820,504 for its Oryzatein® rice protein; Axiom Foods is one of the largest makers of rice and pea protein ingredients. Allowed as of November 11, 2017, the “method of use” protection grants exclusive right to Axiom to use the clinically-shown product claims for multiple versions of Axiom’s Oryzatein® organic brown rice protein, specifically: increased muscle mass, increased strength, increased power output, a decrease in fat to muscle ratio, increased VO2 max, and increased endurance. This is the first of multiple patents pending for Axiom’s Oryzatein® rice protein, with clinical studies to support them. Any rice protein manufacturers and finished product manufacturers using other rice proteins in conjunction with any of the above muscle and endurance-related claims in sports formulations, will be in violation of the patent and Axiom will enforce infringement to the maximum extent of the law.

The now protected Axiom’s Oryzatein® product claims are based on clinical trials which showed that Oryzatein® brown rice protein now equals animal-based whey protein in muscle building, maintenance and recovery. Other clinical trials using Oryzatein® have shown that the muscle-building amino acid, leucine, absorbs faster than other rice proteins and whey proteins. The trials were published in the Nutrition Journal in 2013, the Journal of Nutrition & Health Sciences in 2014 and the International Journal of the Society of Sports Nutrition in 2017.

LONSIN Capital, Affiliates Keen To Acquire Majority Of APWC

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- LONSIN Capital Ltd, with its affiliates, representing over five per cent of the shares outstanding of Asia Pacific Wire and Cable (APWC), are interested to acquire a majority of APWC US at US$4.00 per share.

It had written to the board of directors (BOD) of the company and to the BOD of the main shareholder, Pacific Electric Wire and Cable Co (PEWC), on Feb 23, 2018, on its intention.

LONSIN believes that the acquisition of the majority stake would bring ‘fresh impetus´ to APWC´s assets and swiftly deliver enhanced value for all shareholders.

Previously, LONSIN had expressed concern to the management on the failure of the company to take sufficient action to enhance shareholder value and to include an additional independent director on the company's BOD over time.

In May 2016, it had also written a requisitioned, open letter to the BOD of APWC, asking the board to consider a range of measures that could help deliver enhanced shareholder value without much cost to the company.

However, almost two years later, the share price is still at a massive discount to book value, to cash per share and to the market value of the majority stake in listed subsidiary, Charoong Thai Wire (CTW), Thailand.

The Board of PEWC´s US legal counsel, Michael Hagan responded on Feb 27, 2018, stating that the LONSIN letter had been circulated to the board for their consideration.

"The response goes on to state that a substantive response to the LONSIN offer will be issued in due course but it is unlikely to be before March 8, 2018 owing to existing commitments of the directors," he said.
