Financial crime prevention software spend exceeds US$28 billion by 2027 - Juniper Research

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Global software spend on financial crime prevention tools will exceed US$28.7 billion by 2027, based on a new study by Juniper Research. (US$1=RM4.319)

In a statement, Juniper Research said the growth of 30 per cent, an increase from US$22.1 billion in 2023 will be driven by cybercriminals’ strategies of targeting the ever-growing transaction volume of payments over digital channels to maximise financial gain.

“Financial crime prevention software enables financial institutions and merchants to automate fraud detection monitoring, Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) procedures, as well as behavioural analytics to mitigate risk of financial crime,” it said.

The research assessed leading financial crime prevention software platforms and evaluated them on a number of criteria, including depth and breadth of offerings, service innovation and future prospects; thus providing extensive analysis of the competitive landscape in this dynamic market.

The top three vendors according to its Competitor Leaderboard are FICO, LexisNexis Risk Solutions and Verafin.

FICO demonstrates a broad set of capabilities, access to high-value data for crime mitigation and impressive artificial intelligence (AI)-based analytical systems within its product portfolio.

“Competing vendors must prioritise frequent platform updates to keep pace with rapid cybercriminal innovations and maximise their market share,” said its research co-author Mélissa Amouny.

By 2027, the research predicted that fraud detection and KYC systems will account for 88 per cent of global financial crime prevention spend, enabling financial institutions to improve the mitigation of many common crime types, including account takeovers.

The report urged financial crime prevention tool vendors to use AI for intelligent verification system orchestration, enabling enterprises to adapt to increasingly complex cyberattacks, choosing the right verification capability for each scenario.

AM Best affirms Malaysian Reinsurance’s credit ratings

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Global credit rating agency, AM Best has affirmed the financial strength rating of A- (Excellent) and the long-term issuer credit rating of “a-” (Excellent) of Malaysian Reinsurance Bhd (Malaysian Re).

In a statement, AM Best said the credit ratings, which have a stable outlook, reflected Malaysian Re’s balance sheet strength, which was assessed as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

Malaysian Re’s balance sheet strength is underpinned by its risk-adjusted capitalisation, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio, which is expected to remain at the strongest level over the medium term.

The credit rating agency viewed the company’s investment portfolio to be generally conservative, whereby the majority of investments are allocated to term deposits, government bonds and good quality corporate bonds.

Additionally, the company benefits from good financial flexibility as demonstrated by its recent subordinated debt issuances in 2022, and historical capital support from MNRB Holdings Bhd.

“The company’s operating performance is assessed as adequate, as evidenced by a five-year average return-on-equity ratio of 5.6 per cent between financial years 2018 and 2022.

“Malaysian Re’s underwriting performance was negatively impacted in the financial year ending March 31, 2022, mainly by its exposure to Malaysian and European floods, as well as other large losses in 2021,” it added.

While the company’s investment income declined in financial year 2022 as a result of lower interest income and unrealised losses on equity investments including unit trusts, it remains a positive contributor to overall earnings.

Malaysian Re is the largest non-life reinsurer in Malaysia, with a dominant domestic market share, benefitting from a regulatory domestic cession arrangement, which provides it with access to a steady stream of profitable domestic business.

Future product and distribution channel diversification is expected to be supported by strategic expansion into non-traditional products and specialty lines, as part of the company's ongoing business remodelling programme.

Executive aviation industry going through biggest transition: Jetex

Its founder and chief executive officer Adel Mardini said the industry has shown its ability to adapt and remain connected to its customers, spurring their desire to travel and discover within an environment of luxury and supreme service.

In the company’s 2022 annual review, Mardini said data from aviation data research firm, Wingx, revealed that 2021 saw 3.3 million private flights globally, the most on record, and the industry is set to grow by 10 per cent in the post-pandemic period.

“A much larger number of ultra-premium passengers continue to fly private rather than returning to first or business class. There has also been an increase in first-time private flyers for both business and family travel.

“As a result, sales demand for both new and pre-owned jets has climbed to record levels and is expected to continue, with 8,400-8,500 new business jet deliveries between 2022 and 2031 at an estimated value of US$264-US$274 billion (US$1=RM4.415),” he said.

Mardini said demand for private air travel is expected to grow further year-on-year (y-o-y), and Jetex is thrilled to be part of the growth.

“With more flexibility, time efficiency, and a larger possible reach, the demand for private air travel is expected to grow further y-o-y and Jetex is thrilled to be part of this ongoing success story,” he said.
