Malaysian Reinsurance Bhd has stable credit ratings outlook

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 -- AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A- (excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘a-’ of Malaysian Reinsurance Bhd (Malaysian Re) Malaysia.

According to AM Best, the outlook of these credit ratings is stable.

The ratings reflect Malaysian Re’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best described as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

Malaysian Re’s balance sheet strength assessment is underpinned by risk-adjusted capitalisation that remains comfortably at the strongest level, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio.

The company’s capital and surplus has exhibited a strong growth over recent years from retained earnings.

In fiscal year 2019, a capital injection of RM100 million from its holding company, MNRB Holdings Bhd has strengthened its capital position to support business growth.

In addition, the company has a conservative investment portfolio, with focus on good quality fixed-income securities.

AM Best views the company’s underwriting leverage as low compared with its peers.

The rating agency views the company’s operating performance as adequate and assesses Malaysian Re’s business profile as neutral.

Malaysian Re is a dominant market leader in Malaysia’s non-life reinsurance market. More details on the ratings at http://www.ambest.com/

AM Best maintains under review with positive implications status for CIC Guam

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18-- AM Best has maintained the under review with positive implications status for the Financial Strength Rating of B++ (good) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘bbb+’ of Century Insurance Company (Guam) Limited (CIC Guam) Guam.

These ratings were placed under review on July 3, following an announcement that DB Insurance Co Ltd (DBI) has entered into an agreement with CIC Guam’s parent company, Tan Holdings Corporation (THC).

The agreement involved the acquisition of 80 per cent stake in each of THC’s three insurance subsidiaries - CIC Guam and two other insurers in Saipan and Papua New Guinea.

At that time, AM Best indicated that the ratings would remain under review until the transaction was completed, and an assessment of the subsequent impact to CIC Guam’s business and credit profile could be determined.

The under review with positive implications status has been extended as regulatory approval is still pending.

The companies now anticipate a transaction closing date in early 2020. CIC Guam’s ratings will remain under review until the close of the transaction, while AM Best continues to conduct further discussions with CIC Guam’s and DBI’s management teams to fully assess the rating impact.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 -- AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A- (excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘a-’ of NEWGT Reinsurance Company Ltd (NEWGT) Bermuda.

According to a statement, the outlook of these credit ratings is stable.

The ratings reflect NEWGT’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best described as strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

The company’s strong balance sheet assessment reflects its modest capital base, low underwriting leverage and conservative investment portfolio.

Operating performance continued to improve this year with a lower combined ratio, underpinned by an improvement in claims experience and a stable expense ratio.

Although revenue is expected to decrease slightly in the short term over the course of its portfolio enhancement, AM Best believes the company’s underwriting results will remain profitable and gradually improve through the pursuit of growth in group-related business.

The stable outlooks reflect AM Best’s expectation that NEWGT’s operating performance will improve gradually and remain profitable despite its strong loss ratio controls and continuous portfolio enhancement.

CEIS, HSF unveil production trends of China's rubber, areca nut, agarwood

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 -- Overall supply of natural rubber is expected to be tight in the first quarter of 2020, which will likely lead to the continuous rising of rubber prices, according to an annual report on the Xinhua-HSF natural rubber series price indexes (2018-2019).

The report was released jointly by China Economic Information Service (CEIS) of Xinhua News Agency and Haiken Group (HSF) at the 2019 Boao Forum for Entrepreneurs held in south China’s Hainan Province.

The report shows that sufficient supplies of natural rubber on a global scale will continue in the short term due to the large production capacity.

The two enterprises also released a report on the areca nut industry in 2018-2019.

The report shows that without a significant increase in the demand side, the areca nut fruits purchase price is expected to decline this month.

Meanwhile, CEIS and Chengmai County Government of Hainan Province released a report on the climate index of the agarwood industry.

The report reveals that China’s agarwood industry climate index in the first half of 2020 will be 130.19 points, well above the 100-point, implying the domestic agarwood enterprises' high expectations for the industry development.

According to CEIS vice-president Kuang Lecheng, the continuous release of rubber, areca nut and agarwood indices will help build brands of Hainan’s characteristic agricultural products.

ROSTELECOM PARTNERS WITH JUNIPER NETWORKS TO BUILD IP TRANSPORT BACKBONE FOR NEXT-GENERATION SERVICES

Russia’s Largest Digital Services Provider Upgrades to Increase Capacity, Support More Bandwidth, Improve Service and Reduce Power Consumption

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec 3 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Juniper Networks, (NYSE: JNPR), a leader in secure, AI-driven networks, has provided a major infrastructure upgrade to Russia’s largest digital services provider, Rostelecom. The contract is a large scale modernization using Juniper Networks’ MX Series 5G Universal Routing Platform and PTX Series Packet Transport Routers to improve one of the key communication transport backbones across Russia.

Rostelecom is the largest digital services provider in Russia, leading Russian broadband Internet access and subscription television markets with over 13.1 million of broadband Internet users and 10.3 million subscription television users of which over 5.5 million are using Interactive TV service.

Rostelecom is a major customer for Juniper’s infrastructure and regional communication networks across Russia. The upgrade enables the modernization of Rostelecom’s original network with the MX960 and PTX10008, which have already successfully performed during peak demand from the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and Universiade 2019 (The World University Games).

News highlights:
  • Juniper Networks has installed MX960 and PTX10008 routers for Rostelecom’s modernization upgrade.
  • Rostelecom has immediately saved over five percent on operational expenses due to lower power consumption and improved network efficiency.
  • The “One Junos” OS experience across both the original and new infrastructure enabled the older T Series routers to be seamlessly ‘recycled’ with full backward and forward compatibility to other parts of the network with lower traffic loads.
  • Rostelecom has renewed its service agreement for three years with Juniper’s best in class services support for more than 14,000 network nodes. With this agreement, Rostelecom will improve network performance with technical support, as Juniper’s resident engineers are located in different regions and they will adapt configuration to get best performance from network, and also improve its processes in its branch offices. Rostelecom aims to mitigate risk, getting support in case of outages and will have a recovery plan in place.
Supporting Quotes:

“Our main priority was to upgrade to equipment that is highly reliable under harsh operating conditions and a high traffic load. In the process, we experienced a lower incident rate, delivered new services and functions and reduced power and warranty support costs, while enabling us to repurpose the existing equipment to other parts of the network. Although this was a major upgrade, by continuing to use Juniper’s routing portfolio we have minimized cost and disruption to our network, while maximizing efficiency for our customers and our business. Rostelecom is also extremely pleased to continue to work with our trusted partner, Juniper.”

          - Vadim Nikonov, Director of Backbone Networks Department, Rostelecom

“We have had a trusted relationship with Rostelecom for many years. This was a major infrastructure project, resulting in a versatile modernization upgrade that is already delivering positive results based on Rostelecom’s objectives. It is the result of a thorough understanding of Rostelecom’s needs and we look forward to continuing to work with them as they deliver a rich customer experience.”

          - Yarob Sakhnini, Vice President, Sales, Emerging Markets, EMEA, Juniper Networks

TOSHIBA'S NEW THREE-PHASE BRUSHLESS MOTOR CONTROL PRE-DRIVER IC FEATURES SENSORLESS CONTROL AND CLOSED LOOP SPEED CONTROL

TOKYO, Dec 3 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") today announced “TC78B009FTG,” a three-phase brushless motor control pre-driver IC that does not require Hall sensors, for applications that include high-speed fans used in servers, blowers, cordless vacuum cleaners, and robot vacuum cleaners. Mass production shipments start today.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20191202005339/en/

In recent years, advances in server capacity and performance require larger and higher velocity fans for cooling the excess heat generated by the equipment. Similarly, blowers, vacuum cleaners and pumps also operate with high-speed impellers that require a power capability. Consequently, fan driver ICs need to be able to drive an external FET to deliver more power.

The new TC78B009FTG with sensorless control drives an external FET. It controls the gate driving current of an FET, and can be used with various FETs. In addition, a closed loop speed control regulates and maintains the motor rotational speed under dynamic power fluctuations and load variations. Precise setting of a speed profile is done by the built-in non-volatile memory (NVM) and TC78B009FTG therefore eliminates the need for an external MCU for closed loop speed control.

Main features
  • Sensorless drive
Motor rotation is controlled without Hall sensors by detecting the rotational position from the induced voltage. High-speed rotation is realized by a 150° rectangular wave drive. Eliminating the Hall sensors allows reduction of mounting area and cost of IC, also contributing to motor downsizing and cost reduction.
  • Stable rotational speed under disturbances
A closed loop speed control regulates motor rotational speed fluctuations caused by changes in power supply voltage and load. An external MCU is not required because the IC has an internal NVM for speed profile setting.
  • Flexible in various power applications with appropriate external FETs.
Various FETs can be used, since FET gate current is controlled by the internal NVM.

IFA: THE BIRTH OF THE NEW TOKEN ARCS TOWARD A SOCIETY WHERE THE VALUE AND IDEAS OF INDIVIDUALS CAN BE CONVERTED TO MONEY

The new token ARCS will create a platform for visualizing and tokenizing the value held by people. Toward a society where all people can manage and hold sovereignty over their data.

TOKYO, Dec 3 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- IFA CO., LTD. (CEO: Masashi Mizukura) has developed the token ARCS (ticker symbol ARX) based on blockchain technology. The product platform AIre, which uses ARCS, tokenizes the values held by people to enable exchange, monetary conversion, requests, purchases, and more.

Tokenize the value held by people, and give all people sovereignty over their data

IFA, a provider of products and services using blockchain technology, has developed ARCS, a token based on new blockchain*1 technology. The product platform AIre, provided through the use of ARCS, visualizes and tokenizes*2 the various values held by people.

*1 Blockchain is a technology for recording the transaction histories of decentralized cryptocurrencies. There is no specified administrator or issuer; transaction histories are monitored and managed by users, making fraudulent transactions or falsification of data difficult.
*2 Tokens issued through the use of blockchain technology are a type of cryptocurrency asset allowing transactions on the Internet. It is thought that tokens will be usable in the future as consideration for products and services, like stocks or rewards cards. Anyone, whether an individual or a company, can easily issue tokens, but they can only be used within the scope of the service of the issuing individual or company.

In the past, it has been difficult to clarify the values, ideas, and other intangibles held by individuals, creating a tendency toward structures that are advantageous to companies. Tokenizing such values of individuals will enable free exchange, monetary conversion, requests, purchases, and more, with all persons able to hold sovereignty over their data.

In the platform AIre, ARCS will be used mainly for the following purposes.

1. Incentives when users enter information into AIre
2. Settlement method when companies use AIre
3. Rewards for applicable users when a company acquires user information from AIre
4. Settlement method for services developed and operated by companies using user information obtained from AIre

AIre accumulates information from users who make use of various services and companies, such as signing up for a credit card or becoming a member at a store. This accumulated data takes on great value for both the company and the users. Companies can use the abundant information obtained from AIre to develop compelling services, and ARCS can be used as a settlement method for the services. In the future, incentives (cryptocurrencies, tokens) will be given to users as consideration for providing information.

We are also planning to issue a stablecoin (a cryptocurrency with a stable price) secured by ARCS. The price of ARCS, which will be traded on cryptocurrency exchanges, will vary according to supply and demand. For this reason, companies that conduct settlement with ARCS in order to use AIre will be subject to inconvenience due to fluctuations in the price of data at the time of settlement. Issuing a stablecoin and switching the settlement currency within AIre to the stablecoin can solve this inconvenience.

Preparations are currently underway for listing on KuCoin(https://www.kucoin.com/), the cryptocurrency exchange for ARCS, at 6PM(UTC+8) on December 3, 2019. Trading will initially take place as a currency pair with USDT (Tether), under the ticker symbol "ARX."

AM Best gives excellent credit ratings to Korean Reinsurance Company

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 -- AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A (excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘a’ of Korean Reinsurance Company (KRE), South Korea.

The stable outlook of these credit ratings reflect KRE’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best categorised as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, favourable business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

KRE’s risk-adjusted capitalisation, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio is assessed as strongest, which AM Best expects to remain stable over the medium term, according to a statement.

As a listed company on the Korea Exchange, the company demonstrates a high level of financial flexibility, which is proven by a track record of successful capital raising through the issuance of hybrid bonds in overseas and domestic capital markets.

Its conservative approach to asset allocation remains supportive of the company’s current balance sheet strength assessment, although loans and alternative investment holdings have increased.

KRE’s operating performance is assessed as adequate, underpinned by a five-year average combined ratio of 98.9 per cent and return-on-equity ratio of 6.8 per cent, holding a large book of personal line proportional treaties, which accounted for more than half of net premium written last year.

With more than 60 years of directly working with primary insurers in South Korea, the company benefits from its strong relationship with domestic clients, profound market knowledge, and an immense amount of data it accumulated for better pricing and risk management.

AxiomSL honoured Best Middle Office Initiative by AFTAs

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 -- AxiomSL, a regulatory reporting and risk management solutions provider has been awarded an American Financial Technology Awards (AFTAs) for Best Middle Office Initiative by WatersTechnology.

AxiomSL founder and chief executive officer, Alex Tsigutkin said: “We are extremely pleased to have received an AFTAs award for the second year in a row.

“It is especially, meaningful because it recognises AxiomSL’s ControllerView® data integrity and control platform and its regulatory capital calculation solution.”

Under Basel III, financial institutions (FIs) must maintain capital coverage and hold liquid assets to safeguard solvency and financial stability during economic stress.

Without transparency into risk data and calculations, FIs’ analytic and regulatory-compliance foundations are weak and cannot support astute regulatory capital decision-making.

According to Tsigutkin, Basel IV-driven expansion now requires transparency across all processes to achieve seamless and efficient compliance. These processes include data sourcing, enrichment, aggregation, model management, pre-processing, validation, reconciliation and reporting.

“They must be underpinned by dynamic data-lineage capabilities, intuitive user-controlled workflow automation and end-to-end user-friendly visualisation.”

As AxiomSL continues to innovate, many clients are opting to deploy risk and regulatory solutions on its RegCloud™ — a secure, efficient, cost-effective means to manage expanding disparate data volumes and implement meaningful risk governance and regulatory programmes.

BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY SPECIALTY INSURANCE LAUNCHES COMMERCIAL CRIME INSURANCE IN ASIA

BOSTON & HONG KONG, Dec 2 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE)-- Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) today announced that it is introducing Commercial Crime Insurance in Asia, a new policy designed to help companies address the exposures of a changing fraud landscape.

“Corporate fraud is becoming increasingly sophisticated as technology advances at an exponential pace across the globe. Companies now face new threats and are tasked with protecting both traditional and digital assets,” said Scotland Walsh-Riddle, Head of Executive & Professional Lines, BHSI Asia. “Our policy is important protection for a company’s balance sheet by both insuring against losses arising from a wide range of threats and providing support to investigate the cause of a loss.”

BHSI’s Commercial Crime Insurance Policy offers concise contract language for commercial organizations and includes coverage for both traditional employee crime and external crimes, including funds transfer fraud, credit card fraud, forgery, and impersonation coverage. Impersonation coverage responds to losses arising when a perpetrator impersonates an employee, executive or business associate of the insured for the purpose of defrauding the insured.

“Impersonation fraud is quickly becoming a systemic issue around the world. We’ve recently seen a social engineering scheme utilize artificial intelligence-based software to impersonate an executive. These schemes are testing the boundaries of what companies can prepare for – and we are committed to helping our customers protect against this rising threat,” said Scotland.

The Commercial Crime Insurance Policy also includes numerous extensions, including coverage for lost establishment fees an insured incurs to establish the existence and quantum of a loss.

“The Commercial Crime Policy was crafted with BHSI’s clear and concise underwriting and is backed by our excellent claims handling,” said Scotland. “Through BHSI’s unparalleled financial strength and experience, our customers and brokers can have the confidence BHSI will be there when it matters most.”
