THE CITY OF HELSINKI: NEW GENERATION CITY INFORMATION MODELS FOR HELSINKI

HELSINKI, Dec 15 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The City of Helsinki has commissioned two next-generation 3D city models: a smart, semantic city information model and a visually high-quality reality mesh model. These models are based on the most recent measurement, modelling and city information model methods developed over the past ten years. Helsinki is the first city in the world to simultaneously utilise both 3D city models. They are available as open data.
 

“The city information model is based on the open, global CityGML standard, and many open source code applications have been applied in the model work. This will bring benefits to tax-paying city inhabitants,” project manager, Mr Jarmo Suomisto from City of Helsinki emphasises.

The versatile models enable the calculation and visualisation of city analyses, for example on the possibilities of alternative energy sources, greenhouse gas emissions and the environmental impact of traffic. The models can also be applied to the needs of businesses, tourism, navigation, rescue authorities, telecommunication network construction, building management and regional planning.

TOSHIBA LAUNCHES MULTI-FUNCTION SYSTEM POWER IC FOR SSD

TOKYO, Dec 15 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Toshiba Corporation's (TOKYO:6502) Storage & Electronic Devices Solutions Company today launched "TC7738WBG," a multi-function system power IC suited for the power supply of SSD components, such as the SoC core block, IO blocks, NAND flash memory, DRAM, and various sensors. Sample shipments start today with mass production shipments scheduled for the end of January next year.

The "TC7738WBG" is a multi-output power supply IC that incorporates a 6-channel DC-DC converter, a 2-channel power supply and an input protection switch. In systems that use SSD, the voltage differs depending on the interface or application. The new IC allows the input voltage mode setting and output voltage of each channel to be changed simply by changing pin settings, enabling use in numerous systems.

Sustainability Science New Approach To Solving Complex Issues

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- Sustainability science is the new holistic approach to solving complex issues affecting well-being in the country, according to MIGHT, the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology.

Tan Sri Prof Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid, co-chair of MIGHT and science advisor to the Prime Minister, said a broader approach is crucial to tackle inter-connected problems related to human well-being such as water, energy, climate change and education.

ONLY 30% OF SUBSCRIBERS ARE AWARE OF RISKS POSED BY MOBILE NETWORK VULNERABILITIES

Nearly a third never check their bill to verify correct charges and detect suspicious activity

WAKEFIELD, Mass., Dec 13 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Research commissioned by Xura, Inc, a leading provider of secure, digital communications services, has revealed the extent to which mobile subscribers are unaware of vulnerabilities in their mobile operator's network that could lead to their calls or texts being intercepted, so becoming victims of fraud or unauthorized location tracking. Only 30 percent of respondents to the survey - conducted with consumers in the US, UK and Australia - claimed awareness of any security weakness in mobile phone networks.

Respondents provided a list of reasons for their security concerns including vulnerabilities in operating systems (nine percent), apps (six percent), operator data leaks (three percent) and vulnerabilities in Bluetooth, WiFi, and voicemail hacking. However, only six percent indicated specific awareness of vulnerabilities in the technology of the telecoms network itself.
